During the lull following Operation Crusader, the British 8th Army constructed a line of fortified positions running directly southward from the Mediterranean Sea, counting on the deep desert sands to anchor their southern flank. Heavy minefields helped secure the British "box" positions and various British units were entrenched along the entire line. The DAK attack was designed to bypass the "boxes" and engage the enemy armor, with both the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions sweeping around the southern end of the Gazala line near Bir Hacheim.
Objectives: While a feint is made to the east of you, your company will move north and east to swing around the enemy emplacements. Most of the enemy antitank positions should be neutralized, except those to the northeast in the village along the road. Your line of advance should keep you from being engaged by them. Remember that the enemy armor in reserve behind the line is your main target. You will have Sturmgeschutz support until you pass through the enemy line. If you drift into the deep sand on your left flank, you will fall behind.
